That Darn Cat, cross stitch and life Update

Hello My Stitchy Friends,

I want to say thank you for all the subscribers to my blog. Things have been very different and slightly difficult since Angelo was released from the nursing home. Nothing in the previous post seemed to happen. Angelo had his own plans. 😀 Long story short when we went to his childhood home and he was in the wheelchair. He did not want to stay. Rolled to the car and got in, on his own. So we went to our home. Once home he wheeled around the house. Next thing I know he up and walking. Next he took the long flight of stairs to our room. I was stunned. I had no idea he could do that. He moved about on his own. I was just watching he didn't fall or anything. So physically he up and moving. Right arm and leg still not 100% but he walking. Yayyyyyy!

Speech and communication is another story. We have great difficulty communicating. I have some tools to use like a dry erase board. Lots of gestures and such. He tries to speak but just comes out jumbled. Blah blah blah. Some words come sometimes. Like hello and lets go. But daily its a struggle. He gets frustrated with me cause I am his only caregiver. I try to understand what he wants but if I am wrong he starts flipping out. I just try my best to take him places I know he would like to go. Sometimes I am right and sometimes I am wrong. I just keep trying. He refused medicine since his release. I just slip it to him in his food. Must have the Xarelto for his heart. And 1 aspirin a day.

He hates me going to work. I don't know if its a trust issue or what. It was like getting your kid to go to first day of kindergarten. He just was not having it. So I took a week off work. Then I let him know that I had to return to pay the bills. He agreed in so many ways. But everyday I go to work is hard. He has speech therapy 2x a week for the next 3 months. I hope we make progress. And the family sure has not helped with him at all. LOL. His daughter calls from out of town but pretty much all care and appointments are done by me. All that talk from the family and nobody stepped up. Shaking my head. Well it works so far so forget them. Its just so tiring for me sometimes but onward and upward. Its only been 3 months and I am happy with the progress so far. I know he struggles with not working and not being the provider he always was. Not much I can do but stand by his side.

 On to stitching...

So close to a finish on Halloween Cat by Satsuma Street. 28ct jobelan.

Horrible picture but we have a finish people. Yayyy! Elephant Sampler on Etsy. Update: Made for my best friend of 17 years. She did not seem happy to receive it so I will keep it for my own. I will not make anything for anyone else. Unless they ask me. So unappreciative. But she did not understand the work I put into it and the fabric is hand dyed (not cheap). She thought it was dirty. SMH. I love it. I will be watching some videos to help me finish it as a flat fold. (Vonna the twisted stitcher, lol)

Goodwill jackpot..17 Lizzie Kate Flip it Holidays and year with charm patterns. $2.00. I almost fell on the floor. Only missing December year with charm and Holiday Halloween flip it. So happy
So here is my start on the September year with charm. I hate the colors do not match the photo but these are only the DMC flosses. Next time I am picking my own colors. So different from what I was expecting.

I have also picked the fabric and floss for the Share Faith by Erica Michaels. Starting this soon.
I received my Just Cross stitch Halloween (not pictured) and the latest issue. A few I want to stitch in this one and the Halloween issue.
And finally My twice a year hair trim. I usually wear my hair in its natural state. Afro, braids, bun and twists as pictured on the left. But when I get it trimmed my daughter straightens it first (right) then cuts it. So before (left) and after trim (right).

That is all my friends. My next post will be the needleminder exchange hosted by Mii stitches blog.

Happy Stitching!

  1. Great to see you post and that Angelo is doing better than good! I have learned that people are the strongest when they have their back against the wall and are being forced into doing something they don't want to do - like staying at someone else's house. I am sure he is much more comfortable at home. Does he receive occupational and physical therapy too?

What an awesome Goodwill find for you! Looking froward to seeing them stitched up!

Your hair is pretty. People are always amazed at my daughter's hair when it is straightened it goes all the way down here back but she normally wears it in its natural curly state.

Don't forget to take a minute or two for yourself so you don't get burnt out.

  2. Hello Faith, He was getting physical and occupational therapy but the doctor recommended the focus for now be the speech therapy. So after seeing the speech therapist she advised after a few weeks they would include physical and occupational therapy. I guess they did not want to have us there everyday of the week. Thank you for the compliment on my hair. I always say shrinkage for curly girls is real. LOL. I am trying to take time for me. Strange enough my job is the most relaxing place I go. I stitch majority of the time I am there. Thank you and happy stitching.

  3. LeShawn, I'm happy to hear that your husband is home and walking, I hope that his speech comes back with the therapy as that will make it easier for both of you. I'm sure it is as frustrating for you as it is for him. I'm sorry to hear that family did not step up to help you.

I had to look and look to see what was not done on your Halloween cat, I finally saw!! It's a great stitch and I don't think many people realize the time and effort put into a cross stitch unless they are a stitcher. I'm sorry your friend was not more gracious. YOu certainly hit the jackpot at Goodwill!!! What a find!!! We have an overpriced store here and I stopped going, I might have to rethink that decision. Your haircut is lovely!!

    1. Thank you for the kind words Mary. I look crazy to my family when talking about cross stitch because they have no idea how exciting it is to me. I hope one day they at least appreciate some of my pieces when they are done. I finished the September Lizzie and kitting up the next one. And you should at least swing by the place, maybe they changed they ways. Happy stitching to you.

  5. Congratulations on your elephant finish; I love it. I am happy that your husband is home and walking. I hope the speech therapy goes well for him. In addition to the white board for communicating, have you thought about basic sign language? I am sorry the family hasn't stepped up to help out. Don't forget to take some time for yourself so you don't burnout with the caregiving. Nice score on the LK charts.

    1. Hello Robin, Sign language would be difficult since he does not really use his hands. But I use a lot of hand gestures to him. He points things out but not a lot of gestures on his side. I am going to get some block letters or scrabble tiles. I think they might help. I am hoping to stitch one Lizzie patterns per month. Maybe two. lol Have a good weekend.

  6. So great to read that your husband made such wonderful progress and that he can walk now. And I'm sure that the speech therapy will bring progress, too.
Two very nice finishes, the Halloween cat and the Elephant sampler. You will have a lot of fun with your new stash.

  7. LeShawn I am so glad I tried your blog again to follow. I am a follower now. :D I am still praying for you and Angelo. I am so glad for Angelo's progress. That is great. Yes, he has far to go, but he has come far!! I do so hope some of your family steps up to help you. Ask!! You cannot do this all alone.
Your Elephant Sampler is wonderful. I am sorry your friend did not appreciate it. I have had that happen also, and it is so disheartening.
    Goodwill jackpot indeed!!
Your hair looks lovely my dear.

    1. Thank you for following me and for all the prayers. I pray everyday. I ask and people let me down so we just move onward. I have to find a way to finish the sampler. I am working on that. LOL Happy Stitching!

  8. Good to hear your husband is doing better. What a strain this is for you--but I'm so glad you have your stitching to soothe you. Your projects are looking great. I don't stitch gifts for people, either (unless it's my husband, my mom or dad). People just don't appreciate it, but that just leaves more time to stitch for yourself! Hang in there. I'll keep praying for y'all.

    1. I had to learn that lesson the hard way about making something for others. Silly me. And stitching totally soothes me. Now if I could get some time to stitch at home. That would be great. Thank you for the support on everything.

  9. I'm so pleased to read about your husband's progress! Amazing that he is up and moving so soon--I do hope the speech part progresses as that must be very frustrating for both of you!
